Monkland Impossible

The challenge should you choose to accept it is to: 1) walk down Monkland every morning with the great bakery smells and not walk in and buy something and 2) walk home on Monkland every evening when the restaurants are starting to serve dinner and not stop and eat dinner at one of them.

We live in a great neighborhood, NDG, really close to Monkland avenue.  We walk down Monkland at least twice everyday and it is amazing that we haven't spent all of our money on food.  Here are some pictures of our favorite places.

Au Pain Dore Bakery.  This place has really good chocolatine and desserts.  There is fresh baked bread as well.

Yes there is a Ben and Jerry's but don't be fooled by the label.  They do not have chocolate peanut butter swirl.

It is so fun living so close to a butcher.  They have a great cheese counter and other great food.  It is a tad on the expensive side but I feel really fancy shopping there.

Yum! Cupcakes, cookies, candies and cakes.

Forest really enjoyed working here when we first moved.  If you go in before eleven you can get a cappucino for 2.00.  They have great lunch deals which easily feed two and awesome belgium fries with dipping sauces.

Basically a pharmacy with a post office.

This is a local bakery and they serve great stuff as well.

Forest loves this pub.  They have good fish and chips (although I am not a fan of the chips). There is often live music.

Always good for a slice of pizza for lunch.  We also get delivery from here, they have two for one.  Forest enjoys the quebecois.

Delicious! Where have you been all my life?  We started our Sunday chocolatine tradition here.  Often I will stop and get baguette on my way home from work and it is so hard waiting to eat it until I get home.  All of the desserts look amazing.  Someday I want to go in and get one of everything and try it all.

Grocery Store

I must say that everytime I walk by this store I always think of Robin Sparkles from HIMYM.  This candy store is a breath of fresh life.

Forest often works here and still enjoys this coffee a lot.

Yes we will still go to Subway.  It is still one of the cheapest places around which often comes in handy.

My favorite restaruant on Monkland.  It is a little pricey but totally worth it.

  1. I bet the bacon at that Subway is way better than the Subway bacon down here in the States.
